I have to say that to date this has to be the most frustrating design I've attempted!! The lines of colours going downwards have been driving me nuts, but most frustrating of all has been working with DMC's Satin Threads! There are three shades of satin thread in the design, but I've only used the purple so far. I just can't get the tension right and I'm finding it very hard to work single stitches here and there. If anyone has any tips on working with satin threads, they would be much appreciated!!!!!
Also, I've very nearly finished my lace bookmark so hopefully I'll be able to post a picture of that soon...

Cute picture, I noticed that one recently when looking for new projects. Don't think a novice like me should try anything like satin threads yet though!
I've been working on my current WIP - DMC's Three Cute Cats, and I'm finding it really difficult without a frame. I noticed you use one for your Winter Wonderland, is there one you'd recommend? I had a look on Sew and So but got totally confused by the different types and sizes!
Hi Jo,
I've been using wooden hoops that I bought from the Hobbycraft store. The one I've been using with Winter Wonderland is the 9" version. I also have the 6" and 8" ones (bought purely by guesswork!). I'd never really used hoops before, but I've found they really do help with keeping the fabric and stitches taught. I think the way to do it is to find out the height/width of your design and try and find a hoop that will mostly fit it in the centre. I've found that it's easier to work the top and right-hand parts of your design using the hoop, leaving the bottom and left-hand side to be worked without the hoop if necessary. Hope that helps!!
Thank you for your advice. I nipped to Hobbycraft yesterday and got a couple of hoops (I got the plastic ones as the wooden ones they had seemed to be splitting). I'm finding it so much easier now, and can understand why it's better to start in the middle (previously I had just been finding the colour used most and using that one first). I also picked up a couple more kits including the Hang In There kit which I think you also have, so cute!
